Goal
The Goal of the Natural Science-Day is to bring the best students and PhD-students with major in biology, chemistry and pharmacy together with companies of the natural science industry in an informal atmosphere, in order to increase the recruitment accuracy.
Review - 2nd Natural Science-Day 2009
On October 26th 2009, 94 students, PhD-students and graduates found their way to the Technopark in Zurich to meet potential future employers. The students came from 11 different schools, mainly from the ETH Zurich as well as the Universities of Zurich, Bern and Basel.
The students with majors in chemistry, biology or pharmacy used their knowhow to solve the issues of the different workshops. The experts of the companies assisted the students if needed. This process of working together on a typical topic for the company had several advantages: First, the students got a deeper insight into the daily activities of the particular company. Second, they were able to use their theoretical knowledge on a practical case. Third, they met the company representatives in a casual atmosphere.
Not only during the workshop, but also during lunch and later on at the information desks the discussions were held vividly. The information desks enabled the students to meet the companies they couldn’t attend during the workshops. An apéro strengthened all participants to talk about possible employment, thesis-topics or internships.
Yannick Städler, PhD-Student botany, University of Zürich: “I much appreciated to get a good insight into the company thinking and planning. I learned a lot about the practical knowledge. Great event!”
Uli Osterwalder, Company representative, BASF: “The students were very active, prepared and interested. It was interesting to see the variety of inputs students can give to us.”
Fabien Choffat, Company representative, Sika: “I was surprised how engaged and motivated the students were. It was fun to work on the subject of the workshop together with the students!”
